UK immigration laws mandate that those applying for permanent residence or citizenship in the UK must demonstrate their knowledge of the English language and of life in the UK. The test is computer-based and takes 45 minutes, consisting of 24 questions that cover British traditions and customs. To pass the test, you must correctly answer at least 18 questions.

What happens once I pass the test?
Upon passing the life in the UK test, you will receive a pass notification letter. This certificate has no expiry date, and can be used for all future applications.
What happens if I fail?
If you fail the life in the UK test, you will need to wait at least 7 days before booking another test. You can take unlimited attempts for this test. It is highly advised to read the study materials to pass first time.
I have appeared for the test earlier, do I need to appear again?
No. You only need to pass the test once – you don't need to pass the test again if you're applying to become a British citizen and previously passed the life in the UK test as part of your settlement (ILR) application.
How do I book my Life in the UK test ?
To schedule your test, please click on “Book Life in the UK Test” at the end of this page. You must select a test center that is closest to your location. Keep in mind that the Home Office does not allow you to take the test at a location that is too far from where you live.
In order to book your test, you will need one of the following documents:
A valid passport
Convention Travel Document (CTD), or Stateless Person Document (SPD)
EU identity card
Biometric Residence Permit (may be out of date)
